Day to day

What happens when you log a payment.

  1. 01

    Log the payment

Type the amount, or send a Settlano invoice and it books the income for you.

  2. 02

    Settlano does the split

Income tax, Class 2 and VAT come off at the year’s rates the instant you log it.

  3. 03

    Spend without the maths

Safe to spend updates on your home screen and widget: the one figure with the tax already out of it.

Inside the app

Five things it does, up close.

Five close-ups, cropped so the numbers are legible, each captioned with what it does.

The whole app is four tabs. Today is what’s yours right now. Books tracks your income, expenses and invoices. Deadlines is the Maltese calendar. Year is what the year has cost you so far.

The film, as text

Today: income tax, Class 2 and VAT come off the top before you see a euro. What’s left is the number you plan around. The demo shows Safe to spend €6,392.99, 55% still available on the ring, with €5,260.01 reserved for tax, social security and VAT.

Books: every euro in and out, logged in seconds and totalled by the month. A missing receipt is flagged, not forgotten.

Invoices: sent from the app, so the income is already in your books. A part payment lands, the balance updates, a reminder is one tap away. The demo invoice shows a balance due of €1,017.80.

Deadlines: VAT, provisional tax, Class 2, the return. Each one counted down, with reminders you can switch on. The demo shows provisional tax due in 7 days, €938 estimated.

Year: income tax and Class 2 for the year, and the rate you end up paying. A tax bill you watched build isn’t a surprise. The demo shows €3,696.32 of estimated tax on the year so far, 30.4% effective, and a projected full-year net profit of €18,238.15.

The film closes on the wordmark and the line: Tax, settled.

Animated from real screens of the current build. The figures are demo data, not a real client’s.

The calculator above reads the same rate tables. Put your own figure in it, or open the full self-employed tax calculator for the band-by-band split.

Built for Malta

Most tax apps have never heard of TA22.

Six Maltese rules that decide what you owe, and what the app does with each.

  1. 01

    The 10% flat rate, double-checked

If you’re employed with a side income, Settlano runs the TA22 flat rate against the normal bands on your figures and tells you which wins, and whether you qualify at all.

Invoices that log their own income

A PDF with your logo and the particulars Cap. 406 asks for. Send it and the income is booked, split and all; if it goes overdue, you’ll know the day it happens.

    Expenses, audit-ready

Photograph a receipt and the amount, supplier and date fill themselves in, on your device. Supplier VAT numbers and input VAT go into a register your accountant can use as it is.

Privacy

A tax app that never sees your money.

No bank connections.

You log what you choose. Nothing connects to a bank unless you switch it on yourself; offline, on your phone alone, is the default and will stay the default.

No account.

No server holds your numbers. Your data lives on your phone, with an encrypted backup only you can open.

No tracking.

None in the app, and none on this page: no analytics, no cookies.

The rules

Checked against Maltese law. Refreshed every year.

Rates, bands, the Class 2 tables and the VAT rules come from the Income Tax Act, the Social Security Act and the VAT Act, dated by tax year. The calculator on this page reads the same tables.

Settlano gives you planning estimates, not tax advice. They run on the same Maltese rules your accountant works from, and when those rules change, an update carries the new ones.

Come filing time, hand your accountant a clean set of figures to sign off, or check any of it yourself against the Malta Tax and Customs Administration.

Pricing

One price, and the whole of it below.

Monthly€9.99 / month
Yearly best value€69.99 / year
  • The set-aside engine. Income tax, Class 2 and VAT taken off every payment as you log it, on the year’s own rates.
  • The TA22 comparison. Whether the 10% flat rate beats the bands for you, recalculated as the year moves.
  • The Maltese calendar. Provisional tax, VAT returns, Class 2 and the TA24 rental date, each with a countdown and an estimate.
  • The €35,000 VAT line. Counted by supply date, with a warning before you cross it rather than after.
  • Invoices and quotes. Gapless numbering, credit notes, part payments, multi-currency, recurring retainers, and a QR code your client’s banking app can scan.
  • Expenses with the audit trail Malta wants, receipt scanning included, and capital items spread over their proper life.
  • Filing figures, per return. The numbers to type, copyable, with the box each one goes in.
  • An accountant pack. P&L, registers and a VAT summary as one PDF.
  • Everything on your phone, with an encrypted backup only your passphrase opens.

Prices include VAT. The first 7 days are free, every feature included, with nothing to cancel. After that it’s a subscription through Apple, renewing until you cancel it in your App Store settings; Apple handles billing and refunds, and the terms spell it out. FAQ

Questions, answered.

I’m employed and freelance on the side. Is Settlano for me?

Especially you. Side income is where the surprises hide. Settlano stacks your freelance earnings on top of your salary to show your real marginal rate, and checks whether the TA22 10% flat rate beats the standard bands. It knows the Class 2 rules, too: full-time employees are already covered through payroll under Class 1, while part-timers still owe Class 2 on what they freelance.

Why not just a spreadsheet?

A spreadsheet can’t watch the calendar. Settlano counts your turnover toward the €35,000 VAT line by supply date, warns you before you cross it, and knows the day each provisional-tax and Class 2 instalment falls, live, on your home screen. A spreadsheet is a snapshot you have to remember to open; this is the number, always current.

Why not just leave it to my accountant?

You still should, for the filing. But your accountant sees you once or twice a year. Settlano keeps the running figure between those visits, then hands them a clean folder: P&L, registers, a VAT summary.

Is this tax advice?

No. Settlano gives you planning estimates so nothing lands as a shock. The rules behind them are checked against published Maltese law, and every Tax Coach tip cites its source, but the decisions stay with your accountant or the MTCA.

Where does my data live?

On your phone. No account, no server, no bank connections, no analytics. You can export an encrypted backup that only your passphrase opens, handy for switching devices or keeping an audit copy.

What does it cost?

The beta is free. At launch, Settlano Pro is €9.99 a month or €69.99 a year (€5.83 a month, billed yearly), after a 7-day free trial. When the trial ends, adding anything new needs a subscription: there is no free tier, though everything you already logged stays readable and exportable without paying. And when the beta ends, nothing is charged: TestFlight never bills you. You’ll be invited to the App Store version, and subscribing is your call.

What’s TestFlight?

Apple’s own app for trying pre-release apps: free, made by Apple, removable anytime. Install TestFlight from the App Store, tap the invite we email you, and Settlano appears. No payment details needed.

Android?

It’s built, with receipt scanning, the widget and reminders, all of it, but it hasn’t been tested on a real Android phone yet, only an emulator. iPhone goes first. Android is version two, and we’d rather say that than promise a date we’d miss. Join the list and pick Android, and you’ll hear the day it’s real.

When do invites go out?

In small weekly batches, so the beta group stays small enough to talk to. Join the list and a TestFlight invite lands in your inbox. Reply to it and you reach the person who builds the app.
